How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpet?

Candles are an excellent addition to most rooms. The variety of scents can change the feel of the space. In addition, the steady dance of the flame can be relaxing and intriguing to watch. However, spilling candle wax can be stressful. Wax is a unique material and is difficult to clean. However, it is possible, even on carpet. That’s why Colossal Carpet Care has put together these steps so you’ll know how to get candle wax out of the carpet.

How to Get Candle Wax Out of Carpet

The steps to get candle wax out of your carpets are pretty simple, but there are things you’ll need to get it done. You’ll need ice or an ice pack, a butter knife or other dull object you can use to scrape, an iron or hairdryer, paper towels or a brown paper bag, rubbing alcohol or carpet cleaner, and a vacuum.

1. Freeze the Wax

The first step is to try and harden the wax as quickly as possible. Liquid wax can quickly seep deep into your carpet, but if you can reharden the wax it will be much easier to clean. Take your ice pack or ice and place it on the wax spill. Try to avoid mixing any moisture into the wax, as that will only make the clean-up harder. To avoid that, consider wrapping your ice in a towel so it won’t perspire into the wax. Leave your ice on the spot for about 10 minutes to ensure the wax is as hard as possible.

2. Scrape as Much Off as you Can

Once the wax is hard, use your butter knife to scrape at the wax itself. Be careful, as you don’t want to damage the carpet or cut the fibers. Get as much of the wax out as you can, focusing on large chunks. Take your time, and be thorough. Once you’ve gotten as much as you can, vacuum up the chunks you’ve removed.

3. Use Heat to Get More Wax Out

After getting as many large chunks out as possible, you can try and get the rest of the wax out. Place your paper towel or brown paper bag over the wax stain, and then get out your iron. Put the iron on its lowest setting and then start to slowly iron on top of your absorbent material over your wax stain. As you work the iron, the wax will melt and absorb into the paper towels. Periodically, move the paper towels to a clean spot to more easily absorb the wax. Make sure you are on the iron’s lowest setting! Any higher and you can nearly guarantee damage to your carpet. If you don’t want to use an iron, you can melt the wax with a hairdresser from a few inches away and then dab it with a paper towel.

4. Clean the Carpet

The last step is to go over the spot with a carpet cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol to try and get any color out of the carpet. Gently dab your cleaner of choice on the carpet until you’ve gotten as much as you can out. Then, let it dry. After that, vacuum the whole area one last time and you’re done! However, there’s a way to get wax out of your carpet without any chance of damage to the fibers themselves.
